Vegan Eats in Halifax

No, Halifax and the surrounding area isn't very vegan-friendly. But it’s still possible to eat well! Here's how.

*These recommendations are from July 2024. Always check menus before going, as they may have changed.

Wild Leek

I ate the first day at this vegan café and gluten-free bakery located in Halifax. I definitely recommend the Ginger miso noodles (quite spicy!). The hangover bun is also very good, as is their brownie.

I went back for a takeout for dinner. They have ready-to-eat wraps and pasta salads. At the end of the day, some items are even discounted. So I also took a muffin for breakfast the next day. Everything was really very good!

Real Fake Meats

A vegan butcher shop? Yes, yes! A visit to Halifax wouldn't be complete without a taste of the famous Donair. And Real Fake Meats have a delicious vegan version! The buffalo chicken wrap was also delicious. Oh and the cookies, the best !!!! I would have gone back more than once if it hadn't been my last day in Halifax. They even have ready-to-eat deli meats and cheese, all vegan yes!

Salvatore’s Pizzaiolo Trattoria

This Italian restaurant offers pizzas and sandwiches, with vegan options. I ordered the original vegan pizza, which by the way is the same price as the regular, and this one comes with vegan ricotta and parmesan. The vegan ricotta was very ressembling to regular ricotta, yum!!! I added sun-dried tomatoes and vegan sausage as extras.

One of the best pizzas I've ever had in my life! I recommend it 110%!

Café Good Luck

This café on the other side of the Halifax Bridge offers several vegan options. Their vegan breakfast sandwich was good, with extra vegan sausage added. As for the vegan oatmeal, coconut & chocolate chip cookie, it was excellent!!!! Had I had more time, I would have gone back to try their bean spread sandwich.

Wolfville Farmers Market

Saturday is farmers' market day in the town of Wolfville. Several booths offered vegan options. There was Indian food, tacos, hummus wraps and more, but we settled on a burrito bowl. I then went for a vegan salted caramel turtle bar for dessert. It was delicious!

Luckett Vineyard

Several vegan options on the menu at this winery with an absolutely stunning view! You can enjoy a vegan flatbread, a bread or olives platter. There's also a shredded BBQ burger and a curry. The choice is truly yours!

Dockside Restaurant

Vegan options are little in Lunenburg. We had found a Sri Lankan takeout restaurant that looked excellent, but when we got there, it was closed. Lamprai and Spice, I didn't try, but take note of it, the reviews were great on Happycow.

I finally ended up at the Dockside restaurant. There were 2 options: veggie burger or stir-fry. I opted for the 2nd choice, with chili sauce. It was decent, but nothing more.
